ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
  • A high school or GED diploma showing successful program completion.
  • A passing grade of 80 in high school Algebra, Biology and Chemistry or College level Algebra, Biology and Chemistry with a grade of B or better. 
  • Applicants with foreign transcripts must provide Cochran with an unofficial copy of their original foreign transcript and have the transcript evaluated by World Education Services or Globe Language Services and sent to Cochran as their official transcript.
  • Microbiology, Anatomy & Physiology I & II (with a lab) transferable to Cochran School of Nursing with a minimum B grade or better.
  • All science courses must have been completed within 5 years of admission.
  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 required for all transferrable courses.
TRANSFER  CREDIT
  • It is the responsibility of the person seeking a transfer credit to provide transcripts of courses taken as well as a course syllabus and laboratory experiences.
  • An official transcript from a college or university must show an equivalent amount of credits of to be accepted for transfer credit.
SCIENCES COURSES
  • Transfer credit for science courses in Anatomy and Physiology I & II ,Microbiology and Nutrition taken earlier than five (5) years prior to admission, are not transferable, and must be repeated or challenged by examination.

Transfer credit for A&P and Micro will not be given if the applicant cannot provide documentation that the course contained a lab component.

  • A minimum of one repeat is accepted to achieve a minimum grade of B in any of the science courses.

GENERAL EDUCATION  COURSES
  • General education credits have no time limit for transfer. A minimum grade of C+ is required.

NURSING COURSES
  • Because of the wide diversity in the organization of nursing content in various programs, nursing courses are not transferable.
  • Graduates from an approved School of Practical Nursing who are licensed to practice in New York State and who meet the regular admission criteria will be exempt from Nursing 101 (Nursing Basics) pending successful demonstration of competence of the math dosage and calculation exam.
  • Candidates must not have attended and been unsuccessful in another nursing program within the past 5 years.

CREDIT BY EXAMINATION MAY BE ACCEPTED FOR THE FOLLOWING
  • Through Excelsior College for Anatomy and Physiology and Microbiology provided the course has been taken prior with a lab component.
  • Through College Level Examination Program (CLEP) exams in Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Sociology and English Composition with an Essay.
  • Persons who have taken CLEP examinations must arrange to have official transcripts of their scores sent to Cochran School of Nursing.
Final approval for all transfer credit and credit by examination will be at the discretion of the Cochran School of Nursing.
