STUDENTS WITH  DISABILITIES

The Disability Policy at the Cochran School of Nursing provides guidelines to ensure fair and equitable treatment for applicants and students with a documented disability. The Americans with Disabilities Act defines a person with a disability as "any person who has a physical or mental impairment which substantially limits one or more of such person’s major life activities, has a record of such impairment or is regarded as having such impairment".

Qualified candidates must provide at their expense, acceptable documentation of the condition or the disability. Documentation must be within three years prior to admission to CSN.

Reasonable accommodations may be provided for students whose disabilities will otherwise place them at unfair advantage in successful completion of the nursing program. Accommodations vary according to the type and degree of disability.

Decisions on the accommodations are made on an individual basis and depend on the documentation provided and impact on the student’s ability to meet the program objectives.

Documentation provided by applicants and students is confidential. The procedure for accessing Disability Services begins with self identification and providing documentation to the Disability Coordinator of the school.

The Procedure for Accessing Services, documentation guidelines and examples of accommodations that may be provided are listed in the Disability Policy in the Student Handbook.
